Routine Dental Examinations

Keeping mouths healthy with regular check-ups

Routine dental examinations and check-ups allows your dentist to see if you have any dental problems and helps you keep your mouth healthy. Leaving problems untreated could make them more difficult to treat in the future, so it’s best to deal with problems early, or, if possible, prevent them altogether. The time between check-ups can vary from 3 months to 2 years, depending on how healthy your teeth and gums are and your risk of future problems. We keep you informed and advise on how regular you need to see us.

Routine Dental Check-Ups

Routine dental checks
What happens during an examination…

Generally speaking, your visit to the dentist will be for a routine check-up to help ensure your wellbeing and overall oral health. Your dentist will…

  • Examine your teeth, gums and mouth.
  • Discuss any issues you’ve had with your teeth, mouth or gums since your last visit.
  • Discuss a date for your next visit.

How often do you need a check-up

Following your routine dental check-up, your dentist will recommend a date for your next visit. The time between check-ups can be as short as 3 months or as long as 2 years (or up to 1 year if you’re under 18). As a general rule of thumb, the lower your risk of dental problems, the longer you can wait before your next check-up. for example, those with good oral health will probably only need a check-up once every 12 to 24 months, whereas those with more problems may need more frequent check-ups
